Managing Director
March on Stress Director Professor Neil Greenberg is a clinical and academic psychiatrist based at King's College London UK. He is a specialist in adult, occupational and forensic psychiatry.
Neil served in the United Kingdom Armed Forces for more than 23 years deploying as a psychiatrist and researcher to a number of hostile environments including Afghanistan and Iraq. At King’s, Neil is a senior member of the military mental health research team and a principal investigator within a nationally funded Health Protection Research Unit which investigates the psychological impacts of trauma on organisations. Neil also chairs the Royal College of Psychiatrists (RCP) Special Interest Group in Occupational Psychiatry as well as leading on the World Psychiatric Association’s Position Statement on Mental Health in the Workplace.
Neil studied medicine at Southampton University and graduated in 1993. He served as a general duties doctor in warships, submarines and with two Royal Marines Commando units. Whilst serving with the Royal Marines he completed his arctic warfare qualification and the All Arms Commando Course, earning the coveted Green Beret.
Neil provided psychological input for Foreign Office personnel after the events of September 11th 2001 and in Bali after 12th October 2002 bombings and has provided psychological input into the repatriation of UK nationals who have been kidnapped. He has also assisted with the aftermath management of number of other significant incidents including assisting the London Ambulance Service in the wake of the London Bombings in 2005 and oil workers after the 2013 In Amenas terrorist incident in Algeria.
During the 2020/21 Covid-19 crisis, Neil was a member of the Public Health England expert reference panel and continues to be an advisor for NHS People wellbeing/recovery team. He also established the mental health support plan at the London Nightingale Hospital in 2020.
In 2008 he was awarded the Gilbert Blane Medal by the Royal Navy for his work in supporting the health of Naval personnel through his research work. He also led the team that won a military-civilian partnership award in 2013 for carrying out research into the psychological health of troops who were deployed and was shortlisted for The RCP Psychiatrist of the Year in 2015. He was awarded an RCP Presidential Medal for his work with trauma and veterans in 2017 and the Nightingale Hospital Team he led were shortlisted for a national award by the RCP in 2021.
Neil has published more than 350 scientific papers and book chapters and regularly presents to national and international audiences on matters concerning occupational mental health, the psychological health of Armed Forces personnel and the organisational management of traumatic stress. He has been the Secretary of the European Society for Traumatic Stress Studies, the President of the UK Psychological Trauma Society and Specialist Advisor to the House of Commons Defence Select Committee. He is a past Royal College of Psychiatrists’ Lead for Trauma and the Military and is the current President Elect of the Society of Occupational Medicine and a principal advisor for Hostage International. Neil was also part of the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence team which produced the 2018 PTSD guidelines and he led the development of 2023 World Psychiatric Association position statement on Mental Health in the Workplace.

Operations Director
Gavin is a trauma and TRiM specialist and one of the leading TRiM trainers in the UK. As well as being a first class trainer, he provides operational expertise to March on Stress clients in how to plan, implement and deliver effective peer support structures and policies. Alongside Professor Neil Greenberg, he helped to develop, and regularly delivers, evidence-based occupational stress training through the March on Stress StRaW (Sustaining Resilience at Work) programme.
Gavin has worked extensively with blue light emergency services, delivering TRiM training and providing pre and post training support to a large number of police, ambulance and fire services, including Staffordshire Fire Service, Dorset Police, Greater Manchester Police Federation, London Ambulance, London Fire Service, South East Coast Ambulance Service, among many others. He has also delivered TRiM within the media industry (BBC, News UK, ITN), to security organisations (G4S, GardaWorld), charities (Shelterbox, Hostage UK) and others in the public sector (NATO, Foreign & Commonwealth Office, Maritime and Coastguard Agency).
He is the March on Stress lead for a structured TRiM programme for the Ugandan People’s Defence Force which began in 2014 and continues to run effectively, and in 2017 established and continues to lead a similar programme for the Kenyan Defence Force.
Gavin has delivered StRaW to delegates from corporate and public sector organisations, including News UK, the UK Home Office, Heathrow Airport, Babcock and Optima Health. He has continued to develop the training alongside Professor Greenberg, including in 2017 the development of REACT MH, a workplace mental health intervention tool which StRaW delegates are taught to use.
Client feedback regularly praises Gavin’s training style and his depth of knowledge and experience. Prior to joining March on Stress in 2013, he served for more than 30 years in the Royal Marines where he was a TRiM Trainer, TRiM Manager and Practitioner and regularly carried out TRiM assessments and co-ordinated TRiM responses.
As well as training and consultancy expertise, Gavin delivers operational inputs when required, including crisis response. His expertise was called upon after the In Amenas (Algeria) terrorist incident in 2013, where he delivered post-incident briefings and TRiM interventions to those involved.
He deployed on operations around the world during his military service, completing several security tours in Northern Ireland, deploying to the Falklands War in 1982 and the Iraq invasion in 2003 for which he was the unit TRiM Co-ordinator for Operation Telic. He has also supported humanitarian relief efforts including in Sri Lanka in 2004 after the tsunami.
In June 2005, Gavin was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal in part for his contribution to TRiM whilst serving in the Royal Navy.
Gavin's training experience has been recognised with a Certificate for Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS), a national teaching qualification. He holds the ESTSS Certificate in Psychotraumatology. He also co-ordinates the TRiM by March on Stress BTEC level 3 and 5 customised qualifications, overseeing the content of the assignments and the marking team.
Business Development Director
Georgina leads the business development team, and is responsible for the planning, co-ordination and development of the services March on Stress provides. She works closely with Neil and Gavin to develop and deliver services to meet the needs of our clients. This means she also works closely with prospective clients to identify and discuss their requirements, whether that is specialist training, bespoke psychological support, or more detailed programmes of work or clinical services.
Originally trained as a journalist, Georgina has led communications teams for NAAFI (the Navy, Army and Air Force Institutes), private sector marketing and PR agencies and Dorset Police, where she won a national award for a campaign to reduce sexual violence. It was during her time working with the police that Georgina became aware of the benefits of TRiM to both organisations and individuals.

Clinical Director
Karla is an experienced consultant psychiatrist who has previously worked for many years in the National Health Service. She is the clinical lead at March on Stress and oversees our mental healthcare activities including the Wellness (psychological health monitoring) service and the March on Stress Vetlife Health Support Team. In her role she is responsible for direct clinical care, supervision of other clinical staff and policy development, implementation and audit.
Karla has a particular interest in Older Persons’ Mental Health, including cognitive assessment and dementia care. She also has a keen interest in mental health law, particularly the Mental Capacity Act. As such, she has roles as both a Lord Chancellors Special Medical Visitor, with specific duties under the Mental Capacity Act, and a Section 12(2) approved doctor, with specific duties under the Mental Health Act.
Senior Trainer
In his role as Senior Trainer, Roy delivers TRiM, StRaW, Breaking Bad News, Awareness and Action in Mind and Advanced Mentoring Skills courses, as well as bespoke sessions to March on Stress clients from across public, private and charity sectors. Just some of the organisations Roy has delivered training to for March on Stress include South West Ambulance Service, Network Rail, Met Police, British Transport Police, Severn Trauma Network and Adam Smith International.
Roy is also the March on Stress lead for TRiM training at the BBC, where he routinely delivers up to six training courses each year and provides operational support and advice. He also led a number of TRiM training sessions for the RNLI as part of their TRiM pilot implementation in 2016.
In 2017, his expertise was called upon to deliver a series of bespoke, managerial mental health at work training sessions for a leading automotive company.
Like Gavin, Roy’s expertise also extends to delivering crisis response, he worked with Gavin to deliver a TRiM response after the In Amenas terrorist incident in 2013. He too has vast military experience, having served for more than 30 years in the Royal Marines where he deployed on operations worldwide including the Falklands War; Northern Ireland and peacekeeping in Hong Kong.
As a TRiM Practitioner during his military service, Roy carried out interventions as part of the TRiM team sent to provide support after the grounding of HMS Nottingham in Australia in 2002 and he was sent to the West Indies in the aftermath of Hurricane Ivan in 2004.
His extensive experience and dedication to TRiM was recognised in June 2006 when Roy was made a Member of the British Empire (MBE) by Her Majesty the Queen, in recognition of his contribution to Trauma Risk Management.
Roy’s training experience has also been recognised with a Certificate for Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS). He also holds the ESTSS Certificate in Psychotraumatology and the BTEC Level 5 in Trauma Risk Management.
Operations Manager and Trainer
Zoé Brooke works for March on Stress as the Operations Manager and as a senior member of the training team. She is a graduate nurse who qualified at the University of Surrey in 1998. During her clinical career she has worked in a range of settings including a theme park, critical care and general practice. She has developed a wider interest in resilience, being curious about how and why some individuals and communities appear to cope “better” than others. Exploring these interests has resulted in her completing a MSc and a PhD.
Zoé is a volunteer with FANY (PRVC) which deploys multi-faceted rapid response teams to support civil and military authorities in times of crisis. She has been involved with numerous responses to terrorist incidents and civil emergencies. It was through FANY (PRVC) that Zoé first undertook TRiM Practitioner and Manager training with March on Stress, before joining the training team in 2021. She holds the BTEC Level 5 in Trauma Risk Management. In addition to managing the FANY (PRVC) TRiM team, Zoé co-leads the Duty of Care team who proactively work to support members both day-to-day and whilst on deployment.
As well as working closely with, and deputising for, the Operations Director to coordinate our training delivery, Zoe also teaches TRiM and is a lead trainer for the REACTMH® (active listening skills) training programme. She has also deployed to support clients with TRiM responses after serious incidents.
Operations Support and Trainer
Simona is one of the key members of the Operations Team. She is a proud Slovakian who moved to the UK in 2006. Having worked in the Police, the National Health Service and the Fire & Rescue Service for more than a decade, she has wide experience with supporting individuals in crisis. Simona has extensive experience with TRiM, including successfully implementing TRiM processes within organisations to supporting staff on a 1-1 basis.
She has also carried out numerous mental health briefings and coordinated TRiM responses to significant incidents as a TRiM Manager and Coordinator. Simona is one of the two co-founders of the NHS TRiM Network that was set up post COVID pandemic in November 2021.
Furthermore, in February 2023, following the Turkey earthquake, she was approached by a charity to provide TRiM support to deployed volunteers returning back to the UK.
For years, Simona has been fascinated by the human brain, how it works and why some people are more resilient to experiencing mental health difficulties than others. This led to her embarking on an MSc in Mental Health Science with the Open University; she is now in her final year working on her dissertation looking into the links and the role of the immune system, brain circuits and resilience to depression. Simona is passionate about helping organisations and educating leaders to better understand how to best support their staff and build organisational resilience whilst breaking down stigma about mental health.
Within the operations team, Simona provides a wide range of training including the delivery of TRiM Practitioner and Manager courses and the REACTMH (active listening skills) training programme. Simona also continues to work as a TRiM responder as and when needed.
BA Hons
Business Development and Marketing Executive
Kirstin co-ordinates and delivers marketing activity for March on Stress and assists in the co-ordination of training and other operational activity. As part of the Business Development team, Kirstin also liaises with clients and prospective clients and works closely with the Business Development Director to deliver a professional service.
A University of Reading Management and Business Administration graduate, Kirstin's background is in public sector media and communications. She led the Dorset Police safety and security communications campaign for the London 2012 sailing events in Weymouth and has extensive media and internal liaison experience during the aftermath of high profile incidents.
Finance & Office Manager
Julie provides operational and administration support for March on Stress, liaising with clients when training or other services are booked and ensuring members of the Operations Team are in the right place at the right time. She also assists with financial administration and IT co-ordination and support.
Clinical Services Manager
Darren Smith is a Senior Clinician at March on Stress. Working predominantly for the clinical side of the business, Darren provides evidence-based assessment, clinical support and treatment for a wide range of clients, including being the clinical manager for the Vetlife Health Support Service which provides mental health support to the veterinary profession.
Prior to his role at March on Stress, Darren studied at Birmingham City University and graduated in 2008 as a Mental Health Nurse. He subsequently graduated from The University of Leeds, in 2016, with a Bachelor of Health Science in Addiction Studies.
Darren completed a successful 24 year career in the Royal Navy as a Mental Health Nurse and an Addictions Specialist. With a professional background in Occupational Mental Health, he has specialist qualifications in Addiction Studies and has training in a range of psychological interventions including Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Feeling State Addiction Protocol and facilitating group work.
During his military service, Darren has successfully managed large community mental health teams and has been responsible for the clinical delivery of mental health care to Armed Forces personnel. In 2016, Darren co-authored and published The Mental Health of Deployed UK Maritime Forces in the BMJ. In 2017, he deployed to the Caribbean providing mental health support and advice to military personnel and UK police and prison officers.
Mental Health Clinician
Kim is a member of the clinical team, primarily providing mental health assessment and treatment for clients who access Vetlife Health Support. She has worked in healthcare for almost 12 years, initially in Dementia care, before training to be a mental health nurse.
Kim studied at the University of Surrey, graduating in 2017 with a first class degree in mental health nursing. Upon qualifying Kim worked for Combat Stress, a veterans mental health charity, where she was based in a residential treatment centre. Her role was supporting military veterans living with mental health conditions, such as PTSD, Anxiety, Depression and Personality Disorder. It was here that Kim solidified her learning of how to appropriately assess and manage risk, particularly when working with addiction, anger management and suicidality.
She was also trained to use psychological approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy and Art therapy. Dementia care and veteran mental health remain significant interests to Kim, as does sleep; specifically, working with people who experience nightmares associated with trauma.
Administration and Projects Co-ordinator
Julia’s role at March on Stress is as the key administrative facilitator for Operations, Business Development and Clinical management. Julia works with all areas of the business to develop and implement effective administrative processes, to support the Directors and to ensure clear communications between staff. She also maintains a customer facing presence to ensure that March on Stress clients enjoy the highest levels of service we can achieve.
Julia has a wealth of administrative, sales and management experience across finance, fashion production, fine art and housing and has previously run her own successful retail business.

Training Co-ordinator and Operations Support
Allison co-ordinates and administers training courses for March on Stress and also assists with clinical administration.
A University of Wales Cardiff graduate in Business Administration; Allison has a background in healthcare regulation, workforce development at a local government level within children’s services and more recently the administration of examinations in a secondary school setting.
