March on Stress is a psychological health consultancy. Our work is driven by a belief that anyone in psychological distress, whether as a result of exposure to potential trauma or the consequence of other (more day-to-day) occupational stressors, deserves access to the right evidence-based support and care in their workplace.
We help organisations who share this belief to build resilience by safeguarding the psychological wellbeing of personnel through the prevention, detection and treatment of occupational and operational stress, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Established in 2001 (and incorporated in 2003) by Professor Neil Greenberg an academic, occupational and forensic psychiatrist who is internationally recognised as a leader in the understanding of PTSD and occupational mental health, March on Stress is the UK’s leading commercial provider of peer support and psychological first aid training, including Trauma Risk Management (TRiM) training and Sustaining Resilience at Work training (StRaW). We often work with organisations who either place their people in ‘harm’s way’ (in security, media, government, oil & gas and emergency services) or work in high pressure environments (e.g. finance, healthcare, prisons).
Professor Greenberg himself brings a wealth of experience to the support of his March on Stress clients, including having provided psychological input for Foreign Office and emergency service personnel after September 11th 2001, the Bali bombings of October 2002, for oil workers involve in the In Amenas terrorist incident in 2013 in Algeria and to the National Health Service during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021. He has also provided mental health input into the psychological repatriation of hostages for the UK government and private companies as well as having led the UK military’s mental health research programme during his 23-year career in the Royal Navy. Neil has published more than 300 scientific papers and book chapters and regularly presents to national and international audiences on matters concerning occupational mental health, the psychological health of Armed Forces personnel and organisational management of traumatic stress. He is currently leading the revision of the World Psychiatric Association’s position statement on occupational mental health and was a member of the guideline development committee for the 2018 NICE guidelines on the management of PTSD.
Working with a team of highly trained, skilled and experienced professionals, Professor Greenberg ensures that all the services March on Stress provides are based on the most up-to-date scientific evidence, translated into the most practical and beneficial support for your business.
Our products fall into three important categories of psychological support: PREVENT; DETECT and TREAT. They include:
The business case for implementing good occupational stress policies and processes, such as those March on Stress provides, is fourfold: legally, they evidence duty of care; economically, early identification and treatment is more cost effective and more likely to keep people at work; morally – your people will feel supported; and reputationally – being seen to do the right thing in the eyes of the world.
