March on Stress News

March on Stress newsletter – December 2025

Added on the 22nd December 2025

Welcome to our end of year newsletter.

As we come to the end of another busy and fulfilling year for the team here at March on Stress, we would, once again, like to recognise and thank all of our clients and colleagues for everything you do to give your people the mental health support they need at work. Our vision has always been to ensure that anyone in psychological distress, whether as a result of exposure to potential trauma or the consequence of other stressors, has access to the right evidence-based support and care in their workplace. We are proud to work with more and more of you each year, to make that vision a reality for so many.

This year we have made a Christmas charity donation to the Samaritans. All that remains is to wish you and your loved ones a joyful Christmas and here’s to a peaceful New Year. We very much look forward to working with you all in 2026.

The March on Stress Team

Moral injury website

A new moral injury website was launched earlier this year, from the team at King’s College, London, Combat Stress and the University of Bath. The site shares research and evidence and provides a range of useful resources that you might find helpful. Please visit https://moral-injury.co.uk/.

You can also learn more about moral injury in this ‘Working Well Beings’ podcast, recorded earlier this year with Professor Neil Greenberg.

New BSI standard on suicide and the workplace

The first standard dedicated to addressing the risk of suicide and its impact in the workplace has been published by the BSI – the UK’s National Standards Body.

‘Suicide and the workplace – Intervention, prevention and support for people affected by suicide – Guide (BS 30480)’ is free to download and offers clear guidance for organisations of all sizes and sectors. Access the guide in full here.

Health and Wellbeing at Work 2026

Members of the March on Stress team will be back at the Health and Wellbeing at Work event in Birmingham, in March 2026. After a year away for our own conference in 2025, we look forward to returning and catching up with colleagues and clients while taking the opportunity to experience some of the excellent talks at the event. We will be on stand number 3, do come and say hello if you are there!

March on Stress conference 2025 – thank you

Thank you to everyone who attended the fourth March on Stress conference in London on 1st April 2025 – it was a fantastic day, and we are very grateful to those who attended and to our wonderful expert speakers.

We hope to run our next event in 2027, so keep an eye on our LinkedIn account and marchonstress.com where we will post further details as soon as they are available.

Masterclasses

Thanks also to everyone who attended our first TRiM masterclasses in the past year. We really enjoyed delivering the sessions, and if there are topics you would be interested in hearing about in future masterclasses, let us know at info@marchonstress.com

TRiM and neurodivergence

One of our masterclasses focused on an area we are often asked about, TRiM and neurodivergence. The key takeaways included:

  • Inclusion over labels - Accessibility matters more than terminology, or labels.
  • Proactively remove perceived barriers - Everyone should feel able to seek support.
  • Personalised approach - Simply asking "What support do you need?" makes a difference.
  • Understanding behaviours – Fidgeting, avoiding eye contact, or restlessness may be self-regulation, not distress.

New psychological support service

We are proud to have established a new Psychological Support Service in the past 12 months – helping a number of clients through a proactive, occupationally-focused clinical service to monitor, support and treat staff.

It starts with staff undertaking a psychological health surveillance survey. Surveys are reviewed by the clinical team and for anyone where there are mild to more substantial concerns based on the survey, a short supportive triage conversation (STC) takes place with a clinician. Outcomes of the conversation can include advice, reassurance, workplace adjustment recommendations, line management support recommendations or a comprehensive psychological assessment (CPA).

The remote CPA focuses on current job roles; relevant mental health history; coping strategies and support; a mental state examination; and identification of health and occupational risks. Appropriate advice is given to individuals and, with consent, management feedback is provided to the organisation, with recommendations such as workplace adjustments and/or evidence-based therapy. Our therapy services, which conform with National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines, are provided by a pool of appropriately trained and supervised clinicians, depending on the patient’s needs.

We are delighted that our delivery of this new service was recognised recently by the judges of the SOM Occupational Health Awards 2025, with a letter of merit in the category of Outstanding Occupational Health Initiative.

If you are interested in hearing more, including how the service may help your organisation, please get in touch at info@marchonstress.com

New APMS data

Results of the most recent Adult Psychiatric Morbidity Study (APMS) have been published. The study shows that PTSD prevalence in the UK is up, from 4.4% in 2014 to 5.7% in 2023/24.

In terms of Common Mental Health Conditions (CMHCs), key findings include:

  • One in five (20.2%) adults in England had a CMHC, with prevalence higher in women (24.2%) than men (15.4%).
  • CMHCs have increased in prevalence among 16 to 64 year olds: from 15.5% in 1993, 17.5% in 2000, 17.6% in 2007, and 18.9% in 2014, to 22.6% in 2023/4. Increases since 2014 were evident in males and females, and most age groups.

The full information can be accessed here.

Reflective Practice research

We have added a couple of useful links to the March on Stress website with research into Reflective Practice that may be of interest.

Find these, along with information on our Reflective Practice sessions, here.

New SOM president

Congratulations to March on Stress Director, Professor Neil Greenberg, who officially became President of the Society of Occupational Medicine (SOM) in June.

Previously a member of the SOM Board as a Trustee, Professor Greenberg is the first psychiatrist to be SOM President and takes on the role in SOM's 90th year. His term will last for two years.

He said: “It is such a privilege to take on this role, and I am really looking forward to following on from all the wonderful previous Presidents.”

Find out more about the excellent work of the SOM here.

Transforming workforce resilience

It has been great to see how StRaW® has developed at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS, becoming a trusted resource for staff. We profiled their journey with StRaW in this case study which we would recommended reading for anyone considering their workplace resilience options.

We also delivered StRaW training to a Dutch military team in the Autumn, as we continue to expand the delivery of StRaW to a diverse range of organisations, all supporting their people through this peer support approach to improve day-to-day organisational resilience and support.

‘Keep Britain working’ – Mayfield review published

The UK government review into ill health and disability in the workplace was published in November 2025. The Mayfield Review sets out a bold vision for tackling the UK’s growing health-related economic inactivity and we welcome its call for change. Read more, including commentary from March on Stress Managing Director, Professor Neil Greenberg, here.

Working with the Halo Trust

March on Stress Operations Manager Zoé Brooke travelled to Cambodia in the summer to deliver TRiM training. The training is part of an exciting new programme to expand TRiM provision across HALO’s global teams to ensure effective support for personnel who operate in some of the world’s most challenging environments. Read more here.

In addition to the above, we also continue to work with the Halo Trust in Ukraine, remotely preparing the team there to train their own TRiM Practitioners through our TRiM Practitioner Trainer programme.

SECAMB celebrate 10 years of TRiM

Huge congratulations to South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAMB), who are celebrating 10 years of TRiM in the service. We love working with the SECAMB team and it’s been an honour to support them as they have established a fantastic TRiM service, including two dedicated and skilled TRiM trainers – Andrew Pattison and Nat Cole.

Ask Professor Greenberg a question!

Catch March on Stress Managing Director, Professor Neil Greenberg on JAAQ (Just Ask A Question) – a free mental health platform which allows you to choose the questions and experts. Experts answer through short, clear video clips, giving you instant access to their insights, and lived experience. Ask Neil your questions here.

BTEC opportunity

Don’t forget that with our TRiM courses, and with StRaW Practitioner training, you have the opportunity to achieve a BTEC qualification. This is great not only to further the learning from your course, but to gain a qualification. Further details are sent out after training, and if you have any queries, please get in touch with us at btec@marchonstress.com

TRiM case studies

We were delighted to share a couple of excellent TRiM case studies this year, from Civil Nuclear Constabulary describing an organisational TRiM journey and through an interview with Mark Hamilton at Lothian Buses. Mark provided a powerful reflection on his personal journey into TRiM and supporting colleagues.

TRiM networks

The NHS TRiM Network continues to go from strength to strength, and we were delighted to hear from some of the network leaders, Becky Ray and Linsey Kasatkin, at our conference earlier this year. The network provides invaluable presentations and advice sessions along with a huge amount of detailed NHS TRiM resources.

We are also excited that a new Rail TRiM Partnership is in its early stages, led by some of the wonderful TRiM rail leads we have worked with, including Lee Woolcott-Ellis of Southeastern Railway. This will be further developed in 2026 with the setting up of a steering group. Watch this space for further details.

Team changes

Our clinical team continues to grow, and we welcomed a new member of the clinical administration team this year, with Dominique Glynn joining us in April. We also look forward to welcoming a new clinician in the new year, with recruitment underway!.

Christmas and New Year office hours

Please note, we will operate with reduced staffing between Wednesday 24th December 2025 and Friday 2nd January 2026, with the office closed on the bank holidays. If you need us during the festive period, please email info@marchonstress.com and, while responses may be a little more delayed than usual, we will get back to you as soon as possible.
